The Lantern Keeper of Pinebrush Hill

Long ago, in a foggy village near Pinebrush Hill, lived a quiet man named Daman. He wasn’t a hunter, nor a farmer—Daman was the Lantern Keeper. Every evening at sunset, he would light handmade lanterns along the forest trail to guide lost animals and travelers safely home.

Animals in Pinebrush Forest knew him well. Nilu the porcupine would wait for her lantern to twinkle before crossing the stream. Tiko the owl called him “Light-Bringer.” Even grumpy old Bhura the bear grunted in gratitude.

One winter, a thick fog settled in for days. Even the stars went missing. Villagers stayed indoors, but Daman walked out with his satchel full of lanterns, despite the chill.

That night, deep in the forest, he found footprints—tiny and frantic. They belonged to a rabbit named Tilli, who had wandered too far from her warren.

“I can’t find home,” she sniffled, ears trembling.

Daman crouched down, lit his final lantern, and handed it to her. “Then we’ll light the way together.”

As they walked, more animals joined them—each lost, each cold. Tilli led the line, holding her glowing lantern like a lighthouse in the mist. They walked all night until the sun returned and melted the fog away.

The next morning, the forest burst into life. Birds sang from bare trees, and rabbits bounded joyfully through the snow. A dozen lanterns, now hanging from branches, shimmered like golden fruit.

From that day forward, Daman wasn’t just the Lantern Keeper—he was the Forest’s Friend.

Moral of the Story: When you give others light in their darkest moments, the whole world becomes a little brighter.
