The Whispering Woods A Man, a Message, and a Promise
Once upon a time, in a village nestled between golden hills and whispering woods, lived an old man named Ramu. Though he had no family, Ramu was never lonely—he spent his days planting trees, talking to birds, and fixing broken water bowls for thirsty stray animals.
One sunny morning, Ramu discovered a tiny squirrel shivering under a mango tree. It had a sprained paw.
“Don't worry, little one,” Ramu whispered gently, wrapping the squirrel in a soft cloth.
The squirrel's name was Kittu. Grateful for Ramu’s help, Kittu squeaked, “I’ll repay your kindness someday, kind human.”
Ramu chuckled. “You don’t have to repay love, Kittu. Just pass it on.”
Weeks passed, and the forest grew warmer. One day, a wildfire sparked in the dry hills. Flames rushed toward the village. People panicked—but Ramu, though old, picked up his shovel and ran toward the forest.
That night, something magical happened.
As Ramu dug firebreaks to slow the fire, animals emerged from the shadows. Kittu the squirrel brought acorns to signal safe paths. A deer stomped through dry brush to create clearings. Birds flew ahead and warned the villagers.
Together—man and beast—they contained the fire until the rains arrived.
The next morning, villagers gathered around Ramu and the animals.
“How did you do it?” someone asked.
Ramu smiled. “When we care for nature, nature remembers.”
Moral of the Story: Kindness travels in circles. When we care for animals and nature, they care for us in ways we might never expect.
